You crossed my mind like you might an empty stage,
Head bowed, feet bare and certain in their step,
And you dragged behind you an absent parade,
Making your way from the right to the left,
And you smiled at the thought that I thought of you,
And I smiled back on the knowing what we both well knew
that that which I was thinking, you too were thinking
and these thoughts they mingled in a mild confusion
and consulted the matter and reached the conclusion
that it was a fine. And it was.
And then you were gone.
I opened my eyes and saw the park and the trees and the dawn
And under each toe, a path that I hadn't already travelled
So I picked myself up and moved steadily on.
